About Us

Specially Unruffled Ltd was established by Kay Locke in 2018. Kay is a specialist in autism, special needs and mental health.

Kay has invested her time and energy into learning to understand naturally occurring stress and anxiety and investigating and discovering factors that help to reduce stress. Learning to bring us back to a sense of well-being and equilibrium in everyday life via a wide range of strategies.

Discovering that she is autistic in her 40’s helped Kay to understand why she had been focusing on learning to manage stress in her own life and gives her a unique perspective to connect and support some of the most vulnerable people in society.

Initially beginning by offering yoga therapy for mental health Kay, developed her skills through further training and experience to offer an accessible to all Mindful Movement therapy approach.

Kay works with NHS England in the Care (Education) & Treatment Review C+M ICS oversight panel and as a panel member for The Autism Partnership board for Stockport MBC.
Working with NHS England and Triple A as an autism trainer, advocate and expert by experience Kay works alongside professionals and other autistic people and their families. The aim of Kay’s work is to support and develop projects to improve understanding of autism and the lives of autistic people. Kay’s specialist area of interest is making mental health services and treatment appropriate and accessible to all autistic people.

Living in a world that does not understand the stress of sensory-environmental and social-communication overload combined, leaves even the youngest autistic child open to experience extremely high levels of stress in everyday life.

It is recognised that autistic people live shorter lives simply because they are unable to access appropriate health services in a timely manner because of social-communication and sensory barriers. Further the impact of chronic stress may lead to an increase prevalence of autoimmune issues and an inability to regulate stress levels in the brain that reduce the quality of life even further for autistic people.

According to research carried out by Autistica.org.uk, An autistic adult who does not have a learning disability will on average live twelve years less than a person who is not autistic.
